Home at Last

I'm writing this at our kitchen table in our new home. Our new kitchen table, I might add. We've been on a bit of a spending spree. The old kitchen table is upstairs in the "homeschool room" and the red couch was sent off via Craigslist to one of the friendliest, most enthusiastic women I've ever met. It's in good hands.

We've been in the new house since Thursday but our lease began ten days ago. We had four days to get the beds and dressers set up before all of us descended on the house. It was chaotic and I was in a bad mood for two days until we got at least one zone of the house in order. Our bedroom is still strewn with books and I haven't been able to sort out the dresser drawers yet.

We have the kids sleeping in the same room. There is a walk-in closet attached to that room and it has made all the difference. The next room over has the kitchen table and a bookshelf for all the "school" supplies. It's a nice, empty room that could handle an air mattress, should we ever have lots and lots of guests! (We also bought a sectional sofa with a pull-out bed. We're nothing if not thorough.)

We're constantly working to settle into a routine, mainly because of the kids, but I think we've finally "got" it. Having dinner together every night is wonderful. I love having all my kitchen tools back. The rental house was well-stocked but I still found it hard to put together regular dinners. We had a lot of fast food the week we moved in.

I couldn't ask for much more right now. We've been tremendously blessed. I always hate uncertainty and crave stability, but I'm also sort of missing the early days when we had absolutely nothing to do (except for the move, of course) and everything felt new. As always, it's hard to simply appreciate the here and now.

For those we would like to know, our new address is

  1. Yay for getting settled!! I'm so glad you found a good house! I don't think we ate real food for like 2 months after we moved to Colorado - we were all so sick of fast food, even the kids and that's saying something.:)

  2. You hit the nail on the head about appreciating the here and now.

Glad the house is working out so well. Wish I could actually see it ... someday. :)
